Patients scheduled for ambulatory surgical procedures are cared for both pre and post operatively in our 10 bed Short Procedure Unit. The unit is located adjacent to the Operating Room suite which offers privacy for the patients being transported to and from the surgical suite. The SPU nursing staff is also responsible for assuring that all pre-operative testing, patient instructions and necessary documentation is completed prior to surgery.
In addition to caring for surgical patients, this unit also cares for patients receiving medical procedures and treatments that do not require admission to the hospital such as IV antibiotics and blood transfusions.

An area within the Short Procedure Unit is set up and used as clinic space by specialists from Johnstown, Altoona and Indiana providing our patients with the convenience of seeing the doctors locally. Specialists that hold clinic hours in the Short Procedure Unit include:
- Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology
- Nephrology
- Neurology
- OB/Gynecology
- Otolaryngology
- Pulmonology
- Urology
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
